The World Bank and other stakeholders have called for decisive action against institutional corruption, emphasizing that sustainable growth and development in Nigeria depend on this effort.

During a policy discussion on anti-corruption, Ndiamé Diop, the World Bank Country Director, highlighted corruption as a major barrier to Nigeria’s economic progress, citing issues like unreliable fiscal data and manual processes that enable financial leakages.

Kole Shettima of the MacArthur Foundation criticized corruption’s impact on youth, infrastructure, and basic services. Meanwhile, Adele Jinadu of the Centre for Democracy and Development urged systemic legal reforms to address moral and political failures undermining democratic progress.

Stakeholders stressed the need to reform political recruitment, strengthen institutions, and foster fiscal transparency to confront corruption’s corrosive effects.
