The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, says China will stand firm in protecting its trade interests as tensions with the United States continue.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the envoy described the U.S. tariff policy as unfair and harmful to global trade, accusing Washington of prioritising its own interests over global cooperation.
He said many U.S. imports from China are actually American brands produced there due to lower labour costs.
Yu added that China is now focused on technology and domestic consumption to drive its economy, which grew by 5.4% in the first quarter of the year.
He also said during President Tinubu’s recent visit to Beijing, both countries strengthened their partnership and are working to boost China’s imports of Nigerian goods, including oil.
