An environmentalist, Dr. Tom Aneni, has urged the Edo State Government to ban single-use plastics to combat pollution and erosion.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ forum in Benin, Aneni, who leads the Sustainable Environment Development Initiative (SEDI), said plastic waste has become a major issue due to a widespread throwaway culture.
He cited Lagos State’s ban on single-use plastics as an effective step in reducing waste and drainage blockages, urging Edo to follow suit.
Meanwhile, Odolevbo Haruna, Chairman of Accredited Waste Managers in Edo, emphasized the need to educate children on waste management through school clubs.
