Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has announced plans to develop an intra-city rail system linking Maiduguri with surrounding areas.
This project will be the first metro rail initiative in Nigeria’s northern states.
The state’s Commissioner for Transport and Energy, Aliyu Mohammed Bamanga, revealed that feasibility studies, environmental assessments, and community consultations are underway.
The system aims to improve transportation, boost the economy, create jobs, and enhance connectivity.
The first phase will include 12 terminals across Maiduguri, providing an affordable and eco-friendly travel option.
