The Borno state governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, has awarded scholarships worth ₦1.3 billion to 997 students of college of nursing and midwifery in Maiduguri, the state capital.
The governor who announced this while commissioning a lecture theatre complex and a thirty thousand capacity multipurpose hall, also earmarked another ₦1.1b as monthly stipends for all students in the institution with each beneficiary getting a sum of ₦30,000 throughout their study in the institution.
He further added ₦201 million for the students- just over two thousand of them. Each student is to be paid one hundred thousand naira only.
“The government has allocated a total of ₦1,305,189,000 for scholarships, with a breakdown of ₦124,149,000 earmarked for tuition fees.
“The remaining ₦1,181,040,000 will be disbursed as a monthly stipend of ₦30,000 to each beneficiary throughout their studies,” he said.
He also directed automatic employment for scholarship students and best performing students.
