Chadian security forces have arrested six suspected members of Boko Haram, including Muslim Mohammed Yusuf, the son of the sect’s late founder, Mohammed Yusuf.

According to intelligence sources in the Lake Chad region, the suspects were picked up during a counter-terrorism operation in N’Djamena. Muslim, said to be 18 years old, was arrested alongside five others believed to be linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), a faction that split from Boko Haram in 2016.

Chadian police described the group as undocumented militants operating in the capital. Photos from the arrests show Yusuf standing among much older suspects.

Security experts say the arrest is symbolically important in the regional fight against terrorism. Some analysts have called for Yusuf to be repatriated to Nigeria to aid investigations.

Meanwhile, the United States has also praised Nigeria for the recent arrest of two Ansaru leaders, describing it as a major step in tackling terrorism and violent extremism.
