A system disturbance on the national grid plunged parts of Nigeria, including Lagos, into darkness on Friday.
The outage comes just as the Federal Government celebrates what it called a historic rise in power generation to 6,000MW. However, by 2 PM, power generation had dropped below 1,000MW from about 4,000MW earlier in the day. The day’s peak was 5,284MW at 5 AM, but by 4 PM, only 803MW was being generated as many power plants struggled to restore supply.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has yet to comment, as spokesperson Ndidi Mbah did not respond to calls.
