Tigran Gambaryan, Binance’s Head of Financial Crime Compliance, claims three Nigerian lawmakers demanded a $150 million bribe during his detention.
In a letter to U.S. Congress, Gambaryan alleged that during a meeting in January 2024, lawmakers Peter Akpanke, Philip Agbese, and committee chair Ginger Onwusibe asked him, “How much are you willing to pay so that this issue goes away?”
The accused officials have denied the allegations, calling them “false and defamatory.” The federal government has also dismissed the claims.
Gambaryan, detained on money laundering charges, was released in October 2024. The controversy adds to ongoing tensions between Binance and Nigerian authorities.
