FCT Minister Nyesom Wike says wealthy residents are the biggest challenge to tax compliance in Abuja, accusing them of evading ground rent and taxes while demanding services.
Speaking at the commissioning of Zakari A. Kyari Street in Katampe District on Thursday, Wike said the same people pay taxes in London and the U.S. without complaint but refuse to do so at home.
“People say Abuja is rich. How rich is it? If we don’t collect taxes, who builds these roads?” he asked.
He said the new road, linking Ahmadu Bello Way in Mabushi to Katampe, was funded with revenue from residents who paid their dues.
