Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the 15th Emir of Kano, has announced that he will not be hosting this year’s horse riding and Sallah festivities.
The Emir made this announcement in a broadcast, where he expressed regret over the decision but emphasized that it was necessary to ensure the safety of lives and property, which is his top priority.
“We find it necessary to cancel any arrangements made for the Sallah celebrations given the current situation.
“The Sallah Durbar is not a do-or-die affair for us. If it risks becoming a source of chaos, loss of life, or destruction of property, then it is best to shelve it,” he said.
While expressing hope that this decision would contribute to lasting peace in Kano, he urged the people of the state to embrace the decision in the interest of public safety.
