Bayelsa Man Allegedly Kills Mother

In a tragic incident in Elebele Community, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, a 22-year-old man, identified as Godwin, reportedly stabbed his mother to death, alleging she blocked his destiny and wealth.

Residents claim Godwin returned from Benin City exhibiting strange behaviour, influenced by a “Baba’s” warning that his mother was holding back his success. On the fateful day, Godwin reportedly confronted his mother during a struggle and stabbed her in the stomach.

The community youth, led by their president, Comrade Precious Okala, intervened, restraining the suspect after discovering the deceased’s body. “Since returning from Benin, he acted strangely, and the incident escalated when he accused his mother of possessing his destiny,” Okala recounted.

The Bayelsa State Police Command confirmed the incident, with spokesperson ASP Musa Mohammed stating that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

This tragic case underscores the need for addressing mental health and combating harmful superstitions that often lead to violence in rural communities.
