Commercial banks in Nigeria have announced an increase in the cost of SMS transaction alerts from N4 to N6, starting Thursday, May 1, 2025.
The banks communicated the update to customers on Wednesday, citing a recent hike in telecom service rates approved by the federal government.
“Dear Valued Customer, please be informed that effective May 1, 2025, SMS alert fees will increase from ₦4 to ₦6 per message. This is due to higher telecom rates as communicated by service providers,” one bank said in a message to account holders.
They also noted that SMS alerts sent to international phone numbers will attract higher charges.
