Armed bandits have killed two people and abducted more than 60 others in a series of coordinated attacks on communities in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The violence is believed to be retaliation for the killing of several notorious kingpins by security forces, including Kachalla Yellow, also known as Dan Isuhu. He was shot dead along with his nephew during a failed ambush on security operatives in Keta two weeks ago.

In the latest attacks on Sunday, two residents were killed and around 40 women abducted in Gidan Arne village. Several homes were also set on fire. The same day, bandits stormed Keta again, killing one person, burning 11 vehicles, and looting shops.

More abductions were reported in Yan Doton Daji and Unguwan Chida, where 21 people were taken. Residents say the attacks are being led by loyalists of Yellow’s elder brother, the feared bandit leader Adamu Aliero.

Zamfara remains one of the hardest-hit states in the North West, with rural communities often at the mercy of armed groups who demand levies from farmers and retaliate with violence when challenged.
