Some suspected Bandits who kidnapped 61 villagers at Budah Hausa village in Kajuru local government area of Kaduna State about three weeks ago have reportedly killed five of their victims.
The report suggested Fifty-one (51) others were released to their families earlier this week but after hefty ransom payments were made, including drugs and motorcycles.
Further assessments reveal that five (5) other victims are still in captivity as their abductors are demanding additional payments before their freedom is guaranteed.
A local vigilante in the area who made this report known to newsmen on condition of anonymity, revealed that all five victims killed were men.
The vigilante explained that those released including children were subjected to heavy torture while in captivity and could barely walk when they were reunited with their families, with many of them reporting they were chained for the weeks they spent in captivity.
In his words, “Very terrible; if you see them, you will shed tears because they really suffered, especially the men among them. 61 of them were abducted, 51 have returned, five killed in captivity, and five others are still with the bandits.”
He further disclosed that among those released, two of them sustained gunshot wounds in the legs, and said that the victims and others like them who required urgent medical care have been transferred to health care facilities for adequate treatment.
A local youth leader confirmed, on the record, the substance of the report and mourned the demise of those who were killed in captivity while appealing for the release of those still being detained.
