Azman Air Denies Allegations of Selling Aircraft to Iran

Azman Air has firmly denied allegations that it sold or smuggled its aircraft to Iran, describing the reports as baseless.

The controversy stems from claims that two Azman Aeroplanes, an Airbus A340-600 and a Boeing 737-300, were sold to Iran’s Mahan Air in violation of international sanctions. Reports also allege the aircraft’s transponder was turned off while entering Iranian airspace.

Speaking on the matter, Azman Air’s Accountable Manager, Muhammad Hadi AbdulManaf, clarified that the aircraft had only travelled to Iran for routine C-check maintenance, required every 18 months under Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) regulations.

AbdulManaf expressed shock at the smuggling claims, emphasizing the airline’s adherence to NCAA guidelines on aircraft sales and deregistration. He added that the NCAA had not received any sale documentation from the airline.

On the transponder issue, Azman Air stated it was a technical fault logged during the flight. The airline has sought clarification from Iranian aviation authorities, asserting that there had been no complaints from any air traffic control regarding the matter.

Azman Air also addressed claims of sanctions between Nigeria and Iran, highlighting existing economic agreements within the D8 countries, which include Nigeria and Iran, promoting free trade in aviation services.

The airline warned of impending legal action against those propagating the allegations.
