Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi has been placed in an induced coma after undergoing emergency abdominal surgery, according to UK media reports.
Awoniyi sustained the injury in Forest’s 2-2 draw with Leicester City after colliding with the post. Though he tried to continue, he was later forced off.
Forest had earlier said he was “recovering well,” but new claims say the injury was life-threatening and required urgent, complex surgery.
The incident also caused tension, with club owner Evangelos Marinakis confronting coach Nuno Espírito Santo over Awoniyi’s condition and delayed substitution.
Forest remain in the hunt for a Champions League spot but now face a crucial final stretch in the season.
