Army Seeks Better Co-operation with The Media.

The Nigerian army has reiterated its determination to protect the lives and interests of Nigerians and the country’s territories.

The chief of army staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Tagbaja gave the assurance when he spoke at the Nigerian army civil-military cooperation media chat, in the first quarter 2024, held in Asaba, Delta state.

The army chief who was represented at the occasion by the general officer commanding 6th division, Nigerian army and land components commander, joint task force, south-south operation Delta safe, major general Jamal Abdulsalam, explained that the civil-military partnership plays an important role in the security and the unity of the country.

Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja, charged the media to refrain from amplifying the activities of non-state actors and criminal elements who seek division and personal interests.

He said: “In an era characterized by rapid information dissemination and evolving security threats, effective communication and transparency are essential for ensuring the safety and well-being of our citizens.

“The Nigerian Army recognises the enormous impact of the media as a vital link between the military and the public in providing essential information, sharpening public opinion and holding institutions accountable.

“Through accurate and responsible reporting, the media plays a crucial role in informing citizens, fostering dialogue, and strengthening our national security.

“Constitutionally, the military serves to defend the territorial integrity of Nigeria and safeguard the country from external threats.”

“It is crucial to emphasise that the actions of non-state actors aiming to undermine the security, welfare and overall prosperity of our country would be significantly diminished and almost non-existent without the collaboration of certain unpatriotic and unscrupulous individuals within our society.”

Also at the event was the chief of civil-military affairs, Major general Nosakhare Ugbo who gave a goodwill message and explained some initiatives of his division.

The director general, voice of Nigeria (VON), Mr. Jibrin Baba Ndace, reeled out other positives of the civil-military partnership.

There was a minute silence in honour of the 17 military men killed in Okuama community, in Ughelli south local government area of Delta state.
