The Nigerian Army has arrested 12 people connected to Mahmuda, a breakaway faction of Boko Haram, in Kwara State.

The arrests took place during a series of raids in Kainji Lake National Park, which spans both Kwara and Niger states.

Major General Obinna Onubogu, the General Officer Commanding 2 Division, confirmed that two of the suspects are confirmed members of the group, while the others are believed to be accomplices.

The operation, codenamed Park Strike Four, aims to rid the area of terrorists and criminals. Troops have already covered over 90 kilometres of forest terrain, establishing a strong operational base.

The Army is focused on clearing the park of terrorist elements following an earlier directive from the Chief of Army Staff to complete the operation within one month.
