Akwa Ibom Governor Approves ₦1.4 billion to Pay Gratuities.

The governor of Akwa Ibom state, Mr. Umo Eno, has authorized the immediate release of the sum of ₦1.4 billion earmarked for the payment of gratuities to retirees across the statement.

This announcement was contained in a press statement released by the chief press secretary to the governor, Ekerete Udoh on Tuesday, in Uyo.

According to the statement, ₦900 million was allocated for retired state civil servants, and ₦500 million for retired primary school teachers.

Statement added that this gesture will undoubtedly help retirees cushion the harsh effects of the current economic situation in the country.

The statement read, “The release of the additional 1.4 billion naira brings the total amount of gratuities paid so far by the Governor, ten months after his inauguration to 16.1 billion naira,” the statement read in part.

Further, it said “Even though it is an acknowledged fact that gratuities are entitlements, the courage to consistently release funds for the payment, further demonstrates the people-centric approach to governance by his excellency, Governor Umo Eno”.

“This gesture will undoubtedly help our retirees cushion the harsh effects of the current economic situation in the country”, the statement concluded.
