Senate President Godswill Akpabio has dismissed the sexual harassment allegation leveled against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, describing it as baseless and damaging to the 10th Senate.

Speaking at an International Women’s Day event, Akpabio maintained his innocence, saying past allegations by the Kogi PDP senator had also been unproven.

He claimed the accusation surfaced only after Akpoti-Uduaghan’s committee assignment and Senate seat were changed, questioning the timing and motive behind it.

“The Senate has procedures for reassigning committees and seats, which my colleagues know is a normal process. Yet, after this routine change, these allegations suddenly emerged,” he said.

Akpabio also criticized the impact of such accusations on the Senate’s reputation, describing them as “traumatizing” for lawmakers and insisting that there was no prior complaint until the committee reassignment.

The controversy has sparked public debate, with some calling for an independent probe, while others believe the matter was politically motivated.
