A near disaster was averted this morning as a train which took off from Kaduna on its way to Abuja derailed in Jere, Kaduna state, a few kilometers away from the FCT. Transport authorities are responding to the incident as passengers count their luck.
According to initial reports, the train departed Abuja at about 8:05 am and a little over an hour later, at approximately 9:30 am it reportedly came off the tracks in Jere.
The train was said to have gone off tracks at a rocky area and part of the vehicle was badly damaged.

Security operatives have been called and responded swiftly as they are currently on the ground to ensure safety of passengers while transport authorities fix the train.

Thankfully, no injuries or loss of life have been recorded at the time of filing this report.

More information filtering in on the derailed train indicate three coaches on the front engine reportedly went off track.
Within five minutes, 3-gun trucks and Hilux vehicle loaded with armed soldiers arrived the scene to provide additional security alongside the mobile policemen attached to the train.
The train was eventually fixed within half hour of the damage and continued its journey at approximately 10:25am.
The train arrived its destination, Kubwa, Abuja at around 11:42am.
