The police in Delta state have confirmed the release of the students kidnapped while traveling along the east west road in Ughelli area of the state.

The public relations officer, Delta state police command, SP Edafe Bright gave the confirmation on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024.

According to him, all nine of the abducted victims have regained freedom. “All nine of the victims have regained their freedom pls.” He wrote on his X handle.

The Police spokesman had earlier confirmed the abduction, saying the abductees “may have been students who were returning from their school in Calabar, Cross River State on Friday night.”

“The command is aware of this ugly incident, and we are doing all it takes to ensure that they are rescued unhurt,” He wrote on Monday.

The bus driver was reported unhurt, and the kidnappers hadn’t demanded ransom, but the police operatives swung into timely action to rescue the victims.

This ugly incident comes less than a month after 137 schoolchildren of the LEA Primary School and Government Secondary School were abducted in Kaduna state.

Although most of them were rescued, a teacher was killed in captivity and several students needed urgent medical attention upon release.
