The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, revealed that 70% of Nigerians refused bribes at least once in 2023. Speaking at a conference in Kano aimed at enhancing collaboration with Northwest State Attorneys-General, Aliyu stressed the need for unified efforts to combat corruption effectively.
He noted that 76% of Northwest residents resisted bribery, marking the highest refusal rate nationwide, reflecting growing resistance to graft. He urged stakeholders to prioritize accountability and transparency systems.
Kano’s Chief Judge, Justice Dije Abdu Aboki, highlighted the importance of preventive measures against corruption, lauding the establishment of the Judicial Public Complaints Committee (JPCC) to promote accountability within the judiciary. She emphasized that no institution can tackle corruption alone and encouraged collaboration across all sectors.
Other contributors at the conference included the Chair of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Dr. Abdullahi Usman Bello, and representatives from Sokoto, Kano, Zamfara, and Kaduna states.
