At least six people, including five vigilantes and a police officer, were killed in a gunfight between security forces and bandits in Gada Woro, near Gbugbu, Edu LGA of Kwara State.
The clash followed a string of abductions over the weekend, including a returning pilgrim and a point-of-sale operator. Several security operatives and vigilantes also sustained gunshot wounds.
A local vigilante leader confirmed the death toll, describing the attackers as heavily armed and numbering in the hundreds. He called for urgent military reinforcement to clear the forests.
