A 50-year-old man, Modu Isa, has reportedly mutilated himself in Bama, Borno State, after his ex-wife refused to return to him.
The incident happened in the Hausari area of Bama Local Government. Witnesses said Isa stabbed himself three times in the stomach before cutting off his genitals when his former wife, Bayanze Modu, declined his request to come back.
Community members quickly rushed him to Bama General Hospital, where doctors carried out an emergency procedure to reattach his organ.
Residents said Isa had divorced his wife three times, which, under Islamic law, prevents her from returning to him. The case has since been reported to the police.
