Gunmen have killed at least 37 cattle in Tashek community, Riyom LGA of Plateau State.
The Plateau chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN), Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, said the attack happened around 1 pm on Sunday while the cattle were grazing.
He described the attack as unprovoked and said a herder was also injured. Security forces from Operation Safe Haven were deployed to the scene shortly after, following his report.
Babayo said similar attacks had become frequent, urging members to stay calm and allow security agencies to handle the situation.
Last week, gunmen also attacked herders in Tanjol community, injuring two and killing five cattle.
Riyom youth leader, Song Bitrus, said he was unaware of Sunday’s attack.
Efforts to reach Operation Safe Haven’s spokesperson, Major Samson Zhakom, were unsuccessful as at press time.
