30 People Trapped as Mining Pit Collapse in Niger State.

At least 1 person has been reported dead, 7 others severely injured and 30 more, including the site manager, one Alhaji Ibrahim Ishaku are still trapped in a collapsed mining pit in Galadima-Kogo, Shiroro local government area of Niger state.

The director general of the Niger state emergency management agency, Alhaji Abdullah Baba Arah confirmed the incident, saying that the pit fell due to rainfall that softened the soil.

The Public Relation officer (PRO) of the agency, Mallam Hussaini Ibrahim, also speaking on the event, said “due to the unacceptable nature of that environment as a result of banditry, the information of the incident is very scanty, including rescue operations”.
He however disclosed that excavators have been deployed to the scene for the rescue operations.

The area where the incident occurred is notorious for banditry and that has reportedly complicated the rescue process coupled the weather condition.

The mining site is said to belong to a company named African minerals and logistics limited.
