Detectives from the Lagos State Police Command have arrested three men accused of luring a woman through Facebook and killing her after extorting ₦300,000. The incident occurred in the Surulere area of Lagos.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Ishola, confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspects used social media platforms to deceive their victims.
“It is essentially a case of kidnapping,” Ishola explained. “The suspects lured the victim through Facebook, gained her trust, and invited her to a location where they held her hostage, extorted ₦300,000, and later killed her.”
The crime was reported to the Tactical Team of Area C Command, which swiftly launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of the three suspects.
The commissioner added that the suspects’ tactics involved befriending victims on platforms like Facebook and other dating apps, convincing them to visit specific locations before robbing or harming them.
Police investigations are ongoing to uncover other possible victims and crimes linked to the suspects. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant when interacting with people online and report suspicious activities to law enforcement.
