A strange illness in Bida, Niger State, has hospitalised 24 people, causing panic across the community. The illness, which causes sudden collapse, weakness, and loss of communication abilities, has affected multiple areas, including Laruta, Ekoko, and Banin.

According to residents, victims fall ill without warning, with some unable to speak or move. Local hospitals are treating the condition as severe malaria and typhoid fever, although the exact cause remains unclear.

Dr. Bello Tukur, Niger State’s Commissioner for Health, confirmed the outbreak on January 19, stating that no fatalities have been reported. Authorities are working with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to investigate the illness further. Meanwhile, efforts to raise awareness about hygiene and prevention are ongoing.
