The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has rallied members of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) within the All Progressives Congress (APC) to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.
Abbas, who was first elected to the House in 2011 on the CPC platform, affirmed that the bloc remains united and firmly committed to ensuring Tinubu’s re-election, describing their support as “unconditional.”
According to a statement by his media aide, Abdullahi Musa Krishi, the Speaker made this pledge on Tuesday during a meeting with President Tinubu and former CPC stalwarts at the Presidential Villa. He declared that the group would not only stand with the president but also launch a nationwide movement to mobilize grassroots support for his second-term bid.
“Today marks the first time that former members of CPC have gathered in such large numbers to show support and appreciation for our president.
“On behalf of all CPC members, I assure you of our unconditional support. More than 90 per cent of those who played active roles in CPC are represented here”, he said.
He further announced plans to establish ‘Former CPC Members for Asiwaju’ structures across states, local governments, wards, and polling units to consolidate grassroots mobilization.
The Speaker also commended President Tinubu for his contributions to the political rise of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, CPC’s founding leader, as well as the “unprecedented honour” accorded to Buhari during his passing.
Abbas noted that CPC’s legacy remains strongly represented in Tinubu’s administration, with three governors, several ministers, and lawmakers of CPC extraction holding key positions.
