Bandits have killed 10 operatives of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards and vigilantes in an ambush in Anka Local Government Area.
The victims were returning from a joint operation with the Nigerian Army when they were attacked. Several others sustained gunshot wounds and are receiving treatment.
Governor Dauda Lawal confirmed the attack, stating that six community guards and four vigilantes were killed, while three others are missing.
Residents said the victims had just helped dislodge a major bandit camp before they were ambushed. The police confirmed the attack but said the army would provide further details.
