You Don’t Have the Power to Sack Abure – Labour Party to NLC.

One of Nigeria’s main opposition parties, The Labour party, has issued a warning to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) against the planned hijack of the political platform, saying the labour union lacked the power and standing to sack the embattled Julius Abure led national working committee (NWC).

In a statement signed and made public by the party’s national publicity secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the party described the much-publicized stakeholders’ meeting embarked on by the NLC as an illegal assembly of a handful of aggrieved former members of the party, and some he described ‘social media tigers’ who he says are not card-carrying members of the party.

Mr. Ifoh alleged that the political commission of the NLC is a front for comrade Joe Ajaero, the NLC president which he alleges has been empowered for the purpose of Ajaero’s political ambition come 2027.

Ifoh maintained that the group is unknown to the Labour party and as such, lacks the powers to convene a meeting of ‘stakeholders’ to deliberate, let alone take any decision which will have a binding effect on a legally constituted party leadership.

The party’s fiery response follows Monday’s resolution taken by the NLC’s political commission at a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja.

In a communiqué released after the gathering, the unionists reportedly voided the national convention that returned Julius Abure and his NWC members to office.

To fill the vacuum, the stakeholders said the congress would set up a transition committee to oversee the party’s affairs pending when new officers will be elected in three months.
