Wike Revokes Land Allocations of Governors, Senators, and Other Political Figures

Nyesom Wike, the Minister for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has revoked the land allocations of several high-profile political figures, including governors, senators, and other influential personalities.

Among those affected are Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, and PDP National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, along with 568 other individuals. These land allocations, located in Maitama II, Cadastral Zone A10, Abuja, were withdrawn due to non-payment of Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) fees within the extended grace period.

Lere Olayinka, the Minister’s media aide, explained that the 568 individuals failed to make payments despite being granted an additional two weeks after the original deadline. The initial grace period was given in October, when 3,273 allottees were urged to pay. While 2,511 complied, 762 did not, leading to a second extension. However, only 194 of the remaining defaulters settled their bills by January 15, resulting in the revocation of their land titles.

A notice from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) emphasized that the withdrawal was in accordance with Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978. The notice also clarified that individuals who had completed payments by January 15, 2025, would not be affected by the revocation.

Among those impacted are prominent figures such as former Enugu State Governor Chimaroke Nnamani, Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, and Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission.
