The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has attributed the prolonged fight against Boko Haram to the unconventional nature of the conflict.
Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Friday, Musa said the insurgency’s ideological roots make it challenging to eradicate. “This is not a conventional war. We’re dealing with people who have nothing to lose. They believe killing grants them blessings and dying sends them to heaven, which makes it difficult to fight,” he explained.
He also highlighted the group’s tactics, including using human shields and blending into civilian populations, making identification and action challenging.
Musa noted that corruption in arms procurement has been addressed through close collaboration with the National Assembly. He added that the military has enhanced its capacity to repair and maintain equipment and is working towards producing its own weapons and ammunition locally.
The Defence Chief assured Nigerians of the military’s commitment to overcoming the insurgency and ensuring the nation’s security.
