Prominent northern businessman and elder statesman, Alhaji Isyaku Ibrahim, has died at the age of 88.
Family sources said he passed away early Saturday at a private hospital in Abuja.
Ibrahim, who hailed from Wamba in Nasarawa State, was a close ally of former President Shehu Shagari and played a key role in the formation of the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) during the Second Republic.
Beyond politics, he made his mark in sports as the founder of the Mighty Jets Football Club of Jos in the 1970s. He was the first Nigerian to hire a foreign coach for a local club and invested heavily in the team, helping it rise to national prominence. He was also among the first Nigerians to own a private jet.
His nephew, Dr. Musa Ibrahim, confirmed his death, describing him as “highly principled and patriotic, one of the few northern politicians who always had the region at heart.”
Funeral prayers will hold after Zuhr at the National Mosque, Abuja.
