President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Ghana’s newly inaugurated leader, John Dramani Mahama, of Nigeria’s steadfast support, expressing optimism about the prospects of his administration and the nation’s continued progress.
Speaking during Mahama’s swearing-in ceremony in Accra on Tuesday, Tinubu commended Ghana’s democratic achievements, describing them as a testament to Africa’s ability to govern itself effectively and pursue development independently.
“The inauguration today signifies more than a change in leadership. It is a bold statement about Ghana’s position as a symbol of democracy in Africa. This event lays to rest any lingering doubts about whether Ghana and the continent as a whole can thrive democratically. Ghana has provided a resounding answer,” Tinubu said.
The Nigerian president emphasized that Africa no longer needs to prove its capabilities to the world, asserting that the continent has found its path to success.
“It is time for critics to stop ignoring the strides your nation, Nigeria, and others have made. We have nothing to prove to anyone except ourselves. We shall lift our nations out of poverty and build resilient economies at our own pace,” he declared.
Tinubu highlighted the need for unity and dialogue among African nations, insisting that external forces must not undermine the continent’s cohesion.
“While some may attempt to demean Africa or pit us against each other, we shall continue to dialogue and find common ground. Never shall we harm others or allow outsiders to hurt us or disrupt the unity for which so many of our heroes sacrificed everything,” he stated.
He also praised President Mahama’s commitment to his nation, describing him as a leader of vision and substance.
“Your new president is deeply devoted to Ghana and its people. He believes in this nation’s mission and is determined to see it fulfilled. No leader can be asked to do more than that,” Tinubu remarked.
Reflecting on his personal rapport with Mahama, Tinubu said, “President Mahama and I share a bond of friendship, and I am here to work alongside you. You can always count on Nigeria’s support and goodwill. Our relationship is strong and unbreakable.”
Tinubu expressed confidence in Mahama’s ability to bring about positive change and progress for Ghana, emphasizing the importance of strengthening ties between the two nations to achieve shared prosperity.
The Nigerian president also urged the new administration to focus on regional integration and address pressing issues such as poverty, youth unemployment, and instability, stating that these challenges must be tackled with unwavering determination to drive meaningful progress across the region.
The inauguration, attended by dignitaries from across Africa, marked a pivotal moment in Ghana’s democratic journey and underscored the enduring bond between Nigeria and Ghana.
