The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed that its linesmen have located the fault responsible for the power outage affecting parts of the North. The outage was traced to the Ugwuaji-Apir 330-kilovolt (kV) double-circuit transmission line.

The power disruption, which occurred after the 330kV Ugwuaji–Apir double circuit transmission lines 1 and 2 tripped at approximately 4:53 a.m., left several areas in the North without electricity, raising concerns among residents. However, Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, announced that the fault had been identified in the Igumale area of Benue State.

According to Mbah, the fault was caused by a snapped 330kV transmission line spanning a section of the swampy forest in Igumale. He explained that teams were already preparing to mobilize the necessary equipment and materials to commence repairs at the site by Thursday.

“Earlier attempts by two teams to locate the fault were unsuccessful, but the issue was finally discovered on Wednesday evening,” Mbah stated.

He added, “A team of TCN linesmen identified the fault on the Ugwuaji-Apir 330kV Double Circuit transmission line at around 5 p.m. today in the Igumale area of Benue State. The problem was pinpointed to a snapped transmission line, covering about one span in a swampy forest.”

Due to the challenging terrain, Mbah noted that TCN would need to transport heavy equipment, including a bulldozer, from its Enugu Regional Office to the affected site for the repairs. In addition, a Hiab vehicle would be moved to assist in properly tensioning the damaged transmission line.

Mbah reassured the public of TCN’s swift response, emphasizing the company’s commitment to restoring power as quickly as possible. Efforts are already underway to gather all necessary resources to carry out the repairs and resolve the outage.
