Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, has clarified that the restriction on street and market evangelism is aimed at curbing noise pollution, not suppressing religious activities.
Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, explained on Tuesday that Soludo’s recent encounter with a preacher in Onitsha Market was misinterpreted as a ban on evangelism. He stated that the Anambra State Public Health Laws (2006) prohibit excessive noise, and the enforcement is meant to maintain public order.
“The governor has not banned evangelism. Preachers are advised to hold services in churches or designated areas where they won’t disrupt public peace,” Mefor said.
He urged the public to disregard misinformation and adhere to state noise regulations for a more orderly environment.
