The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged residents of the capital to shelve participating in the proposed nationwide protest scheduled to kick off on August 1. The minister alleged that those planning the protests are doing so for selfish interests and not necessarily in the interest of the nation.
The former governor of Rivers state gave the charge while inspecting an ongoing construction in Saburi area of the FCT. He assured residents that the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is working to address the challenges the nation face, including economic hardship, rising food costs and hunger. He therefore, appealed to Nigerians to be patient with the government as the results of the administration’s policies will soon be evident.
“Don’t be angry and don’t join the protest, because protest will not solve the problem.
“The government is aware of the hunger, and that is why it is working hard to find a lasting solution to the problem.
“I know that hunger makes people lose patience. Please be patient. That is all I am asking. This hunger will reduce very soon,” he said.
At the event, the minister also heeded the plea of the residents for the construction of a health facility and police station to curb crime. Wike promised to begin the construction of a police station in the area soon while the chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council, Mr. Christopher Maikalangu, promised to construct a health facility.
Wike also assured the residents that all the projects initiated by the FCT will be completed at the stipulated time.
