Akpooh Edet, a 35-year-old security guard at the Rubber Estate in Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State, has been arrested for faking his own kidnapping to extort N50 million from his employer.
Edet was captured by Ondo’s Amotekun Corps at a hideout in Igbotako, Okitipupa Local Government Area, following a tip-off from Edo’s DSS Command. Adetunji Adeleye, Ondo Amotekun Commander, revealed Edet was hiding at the home of Libon James, who might have been unaware of Edet’s scheme.
According to Oluwole Adesonlu, Senior Security Manager at the firm, Edet had been with the company for ten years. He initially demanded N50 million, then lowered it to N35 million, finally agreeing to N15 million before his arrest. Two accomplices in Edo State were also apprehended. Both Edet and James are now in DSS custody for further investigation.
