A two-Storey school building has collapsed in Plateau State, trapping several kids and teachers, many of whom are thought to be dead. It has been reported that on Friday morning, at approximately 8:30 am, when many pupils and teachers were already in class, Saint Academy, the school situated in the Busa Buji community in the Jos North Local Government Area of the state, collapsed.
The neighbourhood was shocked to learn of the building’s collapse, and worried locals and parents of the school students reportedly hurried to the school to find out what was ongoing.
The Plateau State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) is still working on rescue operations, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). The Plateau SEMA Executive Secretary, Mr. Sunday Abdu, told NAN that the organization had sent people and pertinent agencies to the location in order to conduct emergency rescue operations. According to Abdu, staff from the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) were now on the scene with earthmoving equipment trying to clear the debris and save the children.
The National Emergency Management Agency’s (NEMA) Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Eugene Nyelong, however informed NAN that the number of casualties would be determined after the rescue operations were finished. According to NAN, ambulances from a variety of agencies, including the FRSC, NEMA, Red Cross, Army, Police, and many more, are transporting rescued patients to various hospitals.
