The 16th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, has finalized plans to bestow the traditional title of Ciroman Kano upon his eldest son, a position widely regarded as a stepping stone to becoming the heir apparent within the Kano Emirate. The Ciroma title holds great cultural and political weight, signifying the bearer’s royal lineage and responsibility for overseeing specific districts within the emirate.

Sanusi’s father, Ambassador Aminu Sanusi, previously held the title until his passing in the 1990s. The last individual to bear the Ciroma title was Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero, who served as Emir of Bichi until 2020. However, he was removed from the throne after four years.

Sanusi’s son, currently a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), will be officially turbaned on Friday, November 25, 2024. He will be honoured alongside nine other prominent individuals, further enriching the traditions of Kano’s historic emirate.

Among those to be honoured are Mahmud Aminu Yusufu, who will assume the title of Mai Unguwar Mundubawa; Dr. Abubakar Sanusi Usman Shehu II, who will become Dan Galadiman Kano; and Alhaji Abubakar Aminu Sanusi, who will take on the title of Dan Madami.

Other recipients of traditional titles include Arch. Ali Muktar, Sa’in Kano; Sarki Yusuf Bayero ‘Yan Daka; Abdullahi Idris Bayero, Fagacin Kano; Ado Abdullahi Aminu, Kaigaman Kano; Idris Sanusi, Sarkin Sullubawa; Mansur Isa Bayero, Sarkin Kudu; and Abdullahi Sarki Mohammed, Sarkin Yamma.

The upcoming ceremony is highly anticipated and is expected to reinforce the deep-rooted customs and heritage of the Kano Emirate, a significant cultural institution in northern Nigeria.
