Kano state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has announced the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as 16th emir of kano state. Governor Yusuf made the announcement shortly after signing the new emirate council bill into law.

“With the full support of the kingmakers, I have approved the reappointment of Mallam Sanusi Lamido,” the governor said as he was cheered on by those present.

The governor then issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the 15th emir, Aminu Ado Bayero and four other first-class emirs to vacate their palaces and hand over all emirate’s properties in their care to the office of the deputy governor who doubles as commissioner for local governments.

The kano state house of assembly had, on Thursday, passed the new bill which sought to restore the pre-2019 order and abolished the five new emirates established by former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

“From the very moment I signed the bill into law, it means that all appointments made in accordance with that 2019 law are voided, and the balkanised Kano Emirate has been restored to its original pre-2019 status,” he said.

“The repeal of the 2019 law means that there is no emir in Kano as of now except the reinstated emir.”

Present at the bill signing ceremony were the deputy governor, Aminu Abdulsalam, the speaker of kano state assembly Ismail Falgore, and other top government functionaries witnessed the signing ceremony.

While signing into law, the governor expressed satisfaction that the new law will bring unity of the people of kano and foster sustainable socio-economic development.

Governor yusuf said that the return of muhammad sanusi ii to the throne will propel peace and prosperity adding that the repeal of the council law was in fulfilment of his campaign promise to restore the lost glory of the state and its rich cultural heritage.
