Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his resilience amid the ongoing political turmoil in the state, stating that the unwavering support of the people strengthens him daily.
Governor Fubara made this assertion during a Christmas Ballad event hosted in his honor by former Rivers State Governor, Sir Peter Odili, and his family in Port Harcourt. In a statement issued on Saturday by his Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara expressed gratitude to true leaders and citizens of Rivers who have stood by him, refusing to yield to oppression and tyranny.
The governor, currently embroiled in a political feud with his predecessor, former Governor Nyesom Wike, declared his commitment to doing what is right for the state, emphasizing that divine intervention has been key to overcoming the crisis.
“God has shown Himself as the Ultimate Liberator of Rivers State,” Fubara said. “Through this political crisis, God gave me a new perspective on leadership, and I now see it as an enabler for governance, not a hindrance. My strength comes from the overwhelming support of the true Rivers people who have stood firm by me.”
He added: “It is not my strength alone. Every day, I draw strength from the encouragement, actions, and prayers of Rivers people. With God on our side, victory is assured.”
Governor Fubara assured the citizens that the coming years would bring greater progress and prosperity to Rivers State, pledging to improve on the successes of his administration annually. He pointed to the joyful atmosphere during the Christmas celebrations as evidence of a brighter future.
In his remarks, former Governor Odili praised Fubara for his courage in resisting attempts to undermine the state’s autonomy, describing him as a leader who has emancipated Rivers people and restored happiness among citizens and civil servants.
“For over a year, starting from October 25, 2023, Fubara has faced unnecessary but fierce political opposition aimed at capturing the state as a personal estate. Despite this, he has steadied governance and shown fortitude,” Odili said.
Justice Mary Odili also commended Governor Fubara, presenting him, his wife Lady Valerie, and their children with gifts. She described Fubara as an emancipator chosen by God to lead Rivers State, pledging her family’s continued support for his administration.
The event underscored the growing solidarity around Governor Fubara’s leadership amid the ongoing crisis, with many expressing optimism about the future of the state under his stewardship.
