The Rivers State House of Assembly has initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, over alleged misconduct.
A notice from the Assembly on Monday stated that the process is in line with Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). This move comes amid speculation about Fubara’s fate following the Supreme Court’s recognition of 27 lawmakers loyal to former governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Wike, in a recent media chat, defended impeachment as a constitutional process, saying, “Politics is not play. If he has done something to be impeached, let them impeach him. It’s not a criminal offence.”
