The House of Representatives has consolidated four tax reform bills as lawmakers begin debating their general principles ahead of a second reading.
The consolidation followed a motion by House Leader Prof. Julius Ihonvbere after Speaker Abbas Tajudeen granted approval. The bills aim to modernize Nigeria’s tax system, streamline revenue collection, and enhance coordination among tax authorities.
Among the merged bills are proposals to establish the Nigeria Revenue Service, create a Joint Revenue Board, and set up a Tax Appeal Tribunal. Ihonvbere emphasized the need for an overhaul, describing the existing tax framework as outdated.
