English premier league club, Nottingham Forest, have had four (4) points deducted from their total following investigations into their alleged breaching of profitability and sustainability rules.

Reacting to the news, the club said they were “extremely disappointed” because they admitted guilt early and fully cooperated with the independent commission investigating those misappropriates.

Everton had suffered a similar fate when they were docked 10 points which was later reduced to 6 points, on appeal.

The premier league had initially asked for a 12-point reduction for Everton and 8 points for Forest but the independent commission decided on lower punishments.

Nottingham Forest were infuriated by the decision and process. They claimed spending restrictions on promoted clubs, whose permitted losses are reduced by £22m for each season across the three-year accounting period they spend in the championship, undermined the league’s “integrity and competitiveness”. They have now dropped to the relegation zone, one point behind Luton, and are considering an appeal.

Forest said in a statement: “We were extremely dismayed by the tone and content of the Premier League’s submissions before the commission … We believe that the high levels of cooperation the club has shown during this process, and which are confirmed and recorded in the commission’s decision, were not reciprocated by the Premier League.”
