Police Ban Durbar in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has announced a ban on all Durbar activities during this year’s Eid-el-Kabir, citing security threats.

The directive, issued on Sunday in a joint statement with other security agencies, warned of plans by miscreants to hijack the celebration and cause unrest. The police said the threats remain active since the last Sallah, when a similar ban was enforced.

Residents were advised to avoid horse riding, car racing, carrying weapons, or any suspicious items during the festivities. Parents were also urged to caution their children.

The ban contradicts an earlier circular from the Kano Emirate Council inviting traditional leaders and riders for Durbar on June 4. The police, however, insist the ban stands in the interest of public safety.
