Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, says he will serve only one term if elected president in 2027, stressing that good leadership isn’t measured by time in office but by impact.
Posting on his X handle, Obi said: “Longevity in office is not a mark of success. It is purposeful, accountable service – however brief – that defines true statesmanship.”
He cited global figures like Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, and Nelson Mandela as examples of leaders who made lasting change within short terms.
Obi, a key player in the opposition coalition backing the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has yet to confirm if he’ll run on the ADC or remain with the Labour Party.
He vowed to focus on fixing governance, tackling insecurity, improving education and healthcare, boosting small businesses, and building a productive economy through agriculture, tech, and manufacturing.
“Forty-eight months is enough for any focused leader to make a meaningful difference,” he said.
