Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has claimed that corruption is more pervasive within government circles than among internet fraudsters commonly referred to as “Yahoo boys.”
Speaking as the keynote speaker at Nexford University’s 4th graduation ceremony, themed “Lead the Change; Ignite Your Future,” Obi stated, “When we talk about vices, don’t think it’s only Yahoo boys. There are more Yahoo people in government than outside. The entire country has become a crime scene, with insiders and outsiders stealing.”
He urged the graduates to become beacons of positive change and to leverage their education to reshape society. “Leadership is about character and making the right decisions. Use the knowledge you’ve gained to transform your communities,” Obi said.
Former Minister Obi Ezekwesili, who also spoke at the event, emphasized the importance of service in leadership. “Service is the bedrock of leadership. This is your opportunity to make a positive impact in your workspace and in Nigeria,” she advised the graduates.
The founder of Nexford University, Fadl Al Tarzi, highlighted the institution’s commitment to integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into education, noting that it can boost productivity and connect Nigerian talents to global opportunities. Over 1,200 students graduated, earning both undergraduate and Master’s degrees.
One of the graduates, Yewande Matthew, who achieved a first-class degree in Digital Marketing, described her academic journey as challenging but fulfilling, attributing her success to effective time management and prioritization.
